HONEST OPINION TIME.

Ok, this is it. I LIKE GLEE.

Yup. I REALLY like Glee.

Yeah, on the surface it’s kind of stupid and silly. It focuses on high-schoolers, and I’m not always a fan of the songs. BUT I think that some of the larger overarching messages are wonderful things to be spreading to the people who watch.

I CAN EXPLAIN.

It started way back in the first season. I was kind of hooked on the inter-personal relationships, plus I found the show funny. THEN Kurt came out to his dad. I remembered being super pissed off at Finn because of how he was treating Kurt. And I was worried about how Burt would react when he found out about Kurt being gay, especially after he told Kurt how his mom would be proud of him at the football game. Burt has embraced and defended Kurt at every chance. 

Burt sticks up for him when Finn makes homophobic remarks. He goes to bat when Karofsky threatens Kurt. It may not necessarily be what he wanted for his son, but he sticks by him no matter what. 

The other members of Glee club accept Kurt. While the other students in the school may not, the main characters of the show do. That’s the important part. The writers don’t pain life as easy for Kurt. They show it as it might actually occur. BUT the characters that the kids watching this show see and want to emulate ARE open and accepting of Kurt, which I think is the most important part.

I ESPECIALLY like the way that Finn changes his mind and has Kurt’s back no matter what. He does a 180 from making homophobic remarks and being unaccepting of Kurt.

And I have a huge appreciation for the episode “Born This Way”. I think that so many of our youth go through every day being bombarded with images of how they should look and should act that they take no pride in who they are. Fat, short, tall, thin, every kid should love themselves. If they’re fat and don’t like it they shouldn’t be shamed in to changing. If they want to better themselves then they should do it. Not because society shames them in to it. 

Before that episode I had never actually thought about or heavily listened to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”. I love Glee for choosing to do that song.

I have MAD love for Glee because of the messages it airs, even if they intermittently placed in between teen high-school drama.

Everyone should love who they are, no matter what.

Everyone should be accepting of other people,gay, straight, bi, or combination thereof.
